Christmas Magic

We've been having so much fun seeing Christmas through the eyes of our 4 and 5 year olds. Everything about it is exciting and magical to them. We started a new family tradition this year called The Elf on the Shelf.  Apparently, this has been around for years, but I just found out about it a month ago.  I debated about getting an elf because I didn't want to buy into the commercial side of Christmas so much this year.  These elf kits aren't cheap. ($30!!!).  But I kept seeing all the different ways to make this tradition so much fun, and I gave in.  I'm so glad I did because the kids LOVE it.

The elf comes with a story book that explains everything to the kids.  Basically, the little elf was sent to us by Santa to make sure the kids are being nice in the days leading up to Christmas.  He flies back to the North Pole each night to report to Santa, then comes back to our house before the kids wake up. He hides in a new place each morning, and the kids are so excited to get up and look for him.  Our kids decided that our elf was a girl, and named her Fizz.  I think that's a great name for an elf, don't you?  Fizz has been bringing all kinds of excitement to our house over the past week.

Meeting "Fizz" for the first time

Last week Saturday, the kids woke up to a "North Pole Breakfast", and were introduced to their elf.  We read the story, and they picked out a name.  So what's a North Pole Breakfast? Well, according to Fizz, a good North Pole Breakfast includes powdered donuts, hot chocolate, mini marshmallows, hershey kisses, and white chocolate chips.  Let me be clear...these are NOT things that I normally feed my children, especially for breakfast.  I did let them enjoy Fizz's treat, but Fizz and I had a long discussion about proper nutrition.  She is only allowed to feed my kids a North Pole Breakfast one time each Christmas season.

Our North Pole Breakfast

Fizz's special breakfast was a hit

Reed loved it too!

Fizz also supplied the kids with wish lists they could fill out for Santa.  After breakfast, the kids made their Christmas lists, and Fizz tucked them away to bring to Santa that night.

Each day when the kids wake up, Fizz is hiding in a new place.  We seem to have been sent one of the more mischievous elves. She likes to pull a lot of pranks, and the kids think she's so funny.  I've been taking pictures of Fizz's shenanigans, and I'll try to keep you up to date with them.  She's a fun little elf. :)

Sunday morning - playing the piano

Monday morning - Fizz drew a self portrait

Tuesday morning - trying out her digging skills with marshmallows

Wednesday morning - Fizz replaced the Christmas stockings with the kids' underwear :)
Thursday morning - Fizz brought a craft project for the kids
Friday morning - Fizz TP'd the tree

She even put the empty TP roll on the tree

Stay tuned for more fun with our elf, Fizz.  Today's fun will be coming soon!
