5 Hours in Labor and Delivery

Don't get too excited by the title of this post. He's not here yet, in fact, I'm back at home. UGH!!!

On Sunday, I was having contractions all afternoon. By evening, they were still coming steadily and were about 6 minutes apart. Brandon and I put everything in the car and went to bed early so we could get some rest. I was sure that we'd be leaving for the hospital that night. WRONG. My contractions stopped at 3am. Oh well.

So yesterday, I was having contractions all day again. I had been trying my best to ignore them because I was still a little ticked off about the false labor on Sunday. Finally around 3:30, I decided I'd better time them. I was surprised to see a regular labor pattern at 3-4 minutes apart. Even though they didn't hurt much at all, I decided to call my doctor before the office closed. They sent me to the hospital.

We arrived around 6:00 and got hooked right up to the monitors. My contractions were still coming every 3 minutes, and I was 2cm dilated. We went through all the forms/questions they have to ask when you admitted because it looked like I had a promising labor pattern. The nurse had me get up and walk around for an hour to see if we could get things moving along. My contractions started to feel quite a bit stronger, so I was excited for them to check me again. Still 2 cm. Another hour or so walking the halls. By the end of that stretch, my contractions felt intense. I had totally lost my sense of humor and wasn't talking much anymore. We thought we were finally going to see some progress when they checked me. WRONG! At 10:00pm, still 2 cm and I was in pain!!! It was so frustrating.

They gave me the option of staying longer or going home. I opted to go home since I was crabby, tired, and hungry by this point. They wouldn't have let me eat anything if I stayed. They sent me home with an Ambien to help me sleep, which was great! The contractions died down quite a bit once we got home, and I was able to get some much needed rest.

Today, I'm still contracting. They aren't as intense as last night, but they are stronger than the braxton hicks contractions that I'm used to. I've spent all morning moping around the house, and feeling sorry for myself. Hahaha! Now I'm off to check out some garage sales, do some major walking, and maybe get a pedicure. Time to go out into the sunshine and find my optimism back! :)
