Referral Celebration

A few days after receiving our referral for "L", we decided to celebrate the occasion. What better way to celebrate than to go out for Ethiopian food? We brought all the grandparents (and one uncle, and one cousin) to GoJo's in Grand Rapids for their first taste of Ethiopian cooking. Brandon and I have been there several times, and we absolutely love the food. I think we like it more and more each time we go! Not everyone in our family is as adventurous with food as Brandon and I are, but they all gave it a shot. Some of them really enjoyed it, others not so much. But it meant the world to us that they were all so willing to share a little bit of Ethiopian culture with us. Our daughter is going to be so blessed to have so many people who love her so much! :)

We also had a chance to talk with Sam (the owner of GoJo's) about our daughter. Sam is from Ethiopia, and he is always willing to help out the local adoptive families in whatever way he can. He told us how to pronounce our little girl's name correctly, and also told us a little about the area she's from. He even went in the back room and pulled out his lap top so that we could read about it on a web site. He is such a great guy, and we're blessed to be connected with him.

I ate so much at GoJo's that night. I really do LOVE Ethiopian food. Now I just need to learn to cook the food. I especially want to master the art of making injera. Injera is a type of flat bread that is a staple in the Ethiopian diet. Our daughter will be accustomed to eating everything with injera, so it will be important for me to learn. We've tried to make it a few times now without much success. Time to get practicing! :)

I agree! It does get better and better each time you go! Do you have a recipe for injerra? I'd love a copy of it :) Maybe AFTER you perfect it.. haha!
