Waiting by the Phone

We received some good news about our case at the end of last week. I guess I haven't been as excited about it as I should be. Honestly, we've allowed ourselves to get our hopes up so many times that I just don't feel like I can do that anymore.

On Thursday afternoon, we received a call from our agency. We were told that all of our agency's cases that are waiting at the embassy are going to be cleared. It would take some time to sort through all of them and assign travel calls, and they weren't sorting through them in any particular order. We were also told that the embassy may ask for additional documents before issuing a travel call. I was thankful for the update, but it really didn't seem to be anything I didn't already know.

That night, other adoptive families kept congratulating us on our "good news", and we just couldn't understand why. I mean, yeah it was good to hear that the cases were going to be cleared eventually, but didn't we already know that? So I emailed our social worker, wondering if these people did know something that we didn't know. On Friday morning, our social worker confirmed that we had misunderstood the previous day's news. It turns out that our case has actually been cleared from the investigation. It's been a long 8 weeks, and the investigation of our case is finally over. If I'm understanding the embassy's process correctly, they have to write a final report of our investigation before they will clear us for travel. There is also still a possibility that they will request additional supporting documents to make our case more complete. I'm not sure how long any of this will take. I'm really hoping to get a travel call tomorrow, and to be on a plane before the end of the week.
